Magdalena Musiał-Karg

Magdalena Musiał-Karg – Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Political Science and Journalism of Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań. Specializes in fields connected with direct democracy and implementation of modern technologies into voting processes (e-voting). The author’s scholarly and research interests focus also on the issues connected with the political participation, role of women in politics and transborder cooperation on the borderline of Poland and Germany.

Education, awarded diplomas, academic degrees

Magdalena Musiał-Karg has graduated from two faculties: political sciences and management and marketing. She completed her bachelor’s degree studies in political sciences at Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań and in 2002 defended her BA dissertation entitled: “Referendum w systemie demokracji bezpośredniej Szwajcarii” (A referendum in Switzerland’s system of direct democracy) and written under the supervision of dr Tadeusz Wallas. In 2002 she took up post-bachelor master’s degree studies at the faculty of Master of European Political Studies/Political science, conducted at two universities: Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań and European University Viadrina in Frankfurt on the Oder. She completed her master’s degree studies with the defence of my MA dissertation entitled: “The role of referendum institution in the European integration process” written under the supervision of Prof. Timm Beichelt (EUV), and in June 2004 she was awarded a master’s diploma at Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań. Concurrently with the political science, she was completing her master’s degree course in management and marketing at the University of Zielona Góra. She graduated in June 2003, defending her MA dissertation entitled: “Szanse i zagrożenia polskiego rolnictwa w stowarzyszeniu z Unią Europejską” (Opportunities and threats for the Polish agriculture in association with the European Union) written under the supervision of dr hab. inż. Magdalena Graczyk, professor at the University of Zielona Góra.

In October 2003 she started my doctoral studies at Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań under a scholarship programme Europa Fellows II financed by Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung (the Federal Ministry of Education and Research) in Germany. After completing the Europa Fellows programme, for the period from June 2006 to January 2007 she was granted a doctoral scholarship under the Osteuropa programme financed by Katholischer Akademischer Ausländer Dienst. I defended my doctoral dissertation entitled: “Referendum jako instytucja demokracji bezpośredniej w państwach europejskich” (A referendum as an institution of direct democracy in European countries), written under the supervision of prof. dr hab. Andrzej Stelmach, on 29 January 2007, and she was awarded doctor’s degree in humanistic sciences in the field of political science.

On February 10th, 2014 she was granted a habilitation degree for the scinetfic achievement: Determinants and consequences of using electronic voting in contemporary democracy
